Be Passionate

Be Passionate
February 01, 2017

February is here already and, this month, we’re focusing our energy on being passionate, which happens to be one of my favorite themes we’ve touched on at Aisle Planner. Passion is something that I believe every planner can relate to, as we wouldn’t be in the business if we weren’t passionate about it. (We’re certainly not in it for the tremendous amounts of gratitude or the weekends off, that’s for sure.) As planners and small business owners, we tend to take on tons of roles at once—accountant, bookkeeper, designer, blogger, social media manager, carpenter, counselor...I could go on. Because of the nature of the job, then, it’s so important to remind ourselves of why it is we do what we do—of the passion behind it all—to keep us motivated and on track.

I love today’s quote because it reminds us of the importance of passion. It treats passion as a reference point—as something we should allow to guide the way we spend our time. With budgets to balance and dinner to make and weddings to plan, we often beat ourselves up for taking twenty minutes to read or an hour to go to yoga or fifteen minutes to sketch. I love Hunter S. Thompson’s words, then, because they remind us of the unmistakable value of passion. If it gets your blood boiling, it’s worth your time—regardless of what it is.

As we head into the 2017 wedding season, then, I think these are powerful words to keep in the forefront of our minds. We should allow ourselves time to embark on our passions—both in our daily work and outside of it. In your professional life, this may look like allowing yourself to spend more time on the design of a wedding than you normally would (if that’s the area of planning you’re most passionate about). While, in your personal life, it may look like volunteering or writing or painting or running—or allowing yourself to do more of whatever it is, outside of your work, that gets your blood boiling.

I challenge you to do whatever it is you need to do to remind yourself of the value of passion all throughout the month of February: download today’s wallpaper and let Thompson’s words inspire you from behind a bright screen everyday, pencil in weekly “me-time” on your calendar, leave yourself post-its that pepper your desk and remind you to treat yourself to some passion in the form of embarking on your favorite hobbies or even just a walk outdoors. Above all, do something that makes your blood boil every single day—and never feel as though you’ve wasted time doing it.

Cheers, Aisle Planners, to being passionate!
