Be Brave

Be Brave
October 10, 2017

We’ve officially made it to October, and, while we’re still suffering from where-did-summer-go whiplash, we’re ready to take on fall with all of our wedding-planning strength. We’re focusing our efforts this month on the idea of being brave, and we love today’s quote by the lovely Cheryl Strayed because it reminds us to do just that.

Oftentimes, we equate the idea of bravery with a lack of fear. After all, from our very first grade-school days we’re taught that courage and fear are antonyms. We’re conditioned to think that bravery means feeling no fear in scary situations—and that, if we do feel fear, we’re obviously not being our bravest selves. But we like to flip that common notion on its head (as we tend to do at Aisle Planner): we like to think bravery is actually all about letting that fear become a tailwind rather than a headwind.

Use fear, as Strayed so eloquently states, as an indicator that you’re on the right path. Without a little fear, we’re probably not pushing ourselves far enough or challenging ourselves the way we should be. Fear can be such a useful tool, then, if we look at it as a sign that we’re on the right path. The most important decisions we make in life—whether it’s a personal decision to start a family or move to a new city, a business decision to take out a loan or hire a new team member, or a creative decision to go with an unexpected color palette or build a stage from scratch—should all be laced with just a little bit of fear. Bravery, then, is simply our ability to acknowledge that fear and move forward in spite (or maybe even because) of it.

We’re so excited to dive head-first into fall weddings and, soon enough, winter affairs as well—and we encourage you to put your bravest face forward as we begin to wrap up 2017. So, download today’s wallpaper and let Strayed’s words encourage you throughout the month of October to be your bravest self yet. Acknowledge your fears, thank them for being there, and move forward with that fear at your back, propelling you to make some of your most important and strategic decisions yet.

Cheers, Aisle Planners, to an October full of bravery!
